ΙAbout a cactus-a hook

3 paragraphs

. in its roots?

.why do cacti have spines instead of leaves?

. Are cacti poisonous?

1 sum and glue it all together

Introduction:  The spikes on a cactus protect it from humans and 丨

animals and predators. Its roots are spread out to get water when it rains and it stores water in its body for when it.

.A cactus has a special thing in its roots, as well as stems that do let  it thrive in a desert . These things include those spiky spines, long roots,

thick layers of (stomata a bacteria), thick and stackable stem, smooth skin and a little growing time.

.Why do cactuses have spines instead of leaves? Instead of cactus having leaves they have spines because when plants evaporate the water gets taken out of the leaf and for cactus the spines the water won't evaporate.

Because leaves are open and spikes are closed.

.Are cacti spines poisonous? No cactus spines are not poisonous but some cactus can be very dangerous. For example cholla or hairlike spines.

If they reach a certain point in your tissue it will cause bleeding or bruising. And it can even kill your tissue.

In conclusion: Cactus are not poisonous. But they are not harmful. I learnt that they can kill part of your body by not you. My favorite part/paragraph was about how all the water that stays in a cactus doesn't come out. Or it doesn't evaporate.

He aha tenei?

This week for Te Reo we had to create our own book using our kupu hou for the week.  The sentence structure we followed was, He ______ tēnei.  This translates to, This is a ______.

We also had to record ourselves pronouncing the words right and find images that matched our sentence.
Here is my book.  Hope you enjoy.

telling a story about ONE of the following sentence starters.

This term we are focusing on Narrative writing. You will need to plan and write a paragraph telling a story about ONE of the following sentence starters.

  1. The air turned black all around me.

  2. Footsteps slowly creaked on every step of the stairs. The bedroom door handle turned slowly.

  3. Closer and closer it came, it was getting bigger and bigger, soon it filled the sky above, was the moon falling?

  4. "Help me!" Help me!" Came the call from behind the steel door.

  5. I hadn't seen the door before.  It wasn't there last night.  Cautiously, I turned the handle.

  6. It was a bright, frosty morning. The pavement glistened like a carpet of crushed diamonds in the early morning sunshine

Early in the morning I checking my phone it was 3am there were footsteps slowly creaking on every step of the stairs. The bedroom door handle turned slowly. As I was hiding underneath my bed just to find a human sized doll walking into my bedroom. But it turns out it was just my brother coming to prank me. But little did he know I was underneath my bed sweating to death so I thought i’ll play a little prank on him. I scratched my floor like I was a rat and groulded like I was a wolf I had no time to waste before he would run out the door. So I grabbed him and covered his mouth so he wouldn't scream. “I made a huge mistake” As soon as I let him go he ran, he ran like I was a ghost or something. But that didn't really bother me so I just went back to sleep. Later in the morning I opened my eyes just to find out that I was a ghost floating in the air. I asked myself  how, why me. I'm sobbing and grieving like I have lost my long lost love. I floated out of my bedroom door hoping for my mum to give me a big kiss but instead she walked the opposite way. I tried to stop her hoping for her to see me but she walked straight through me.
