WALT: Write an explanation about how and why something works or happens.
SC: I will
Choose a topic and plan my writing (introduction, 3 ideas, conclusion).
My ideas are elaborated with facts and supporting details.
I use paragraphs to organize my ideas.
Introduction: The spikes on a cactus protect it from humans and 丨
animals and predators. Its roots are spread out to get water when it rains and it stores water in its body for when it.
.A cactus has a special thing in its roots, as well as stems that do let it thrive in a desert . These things include those spiky spines, long roots,
thick layers of (stomata a bacteria), thick and stackable stem, smooth skin and a little growing time.
.Why do cactuses have spines instead of leaves? Instead of cactus having leaves they have spines because when plants evaporate the water gets taken out of the leaf and for cactus the spines the water won't evaporate.
Because leaves are open and spikes are closed.
.Are cacti spines poisonous? No cactus spines are not poisonous but some cactus can be very dangerous. For example cholla or hairlike spines.
If they reach a certain point in your tissue it will cause bleeding or bruising. And it can even kill your tissue.
In conclusion: Cactus are not poisonous. But they are not harmful. I learnt that they can kill part of your body by not you. My favorite part/paragraph was about how all the water that stays in a cactus doesn't come out. Or it doesn't evaporate.
